New Season is nearly upon us

28 Aug 2008

Words from your Chairman

To me last season has only just finished! I, along with many other teams at Foresters trundled the well worn paths of the post-season tournament circuit. And no sooner did the last tournament finish that I was off on a well earned family summer holiday. Ironically though, after only a few days into my holiday I receive a call from the manager of Selsdon Juniors asking if I would like to have a pre-season friendly! I advised him I was on holiday and he advised me his team were already in pre-season training! Crikey, is there end to it?

What summer break?

Since the hugely successful Fun Day there has been the continued frenzy of activity in the background. Year Group Managers and Team Managers will have been busy ensuring the players are registered (along with Alan!) while the remaining members of CMG were ensuring last season’s business was buttoned up and we then readying ourselves for the new season ahead.

As always the club can only survive with the enormously important and dedicated input from the Year Group Managers, Coaches and the Legions of helpers. All players should take time to reflect and thank these people for giving up their time to encourage you to learn new skills and provide you a platform to show these new found skills off.

To those who help; note how good you feel after you have encouraged someone else. No other argument is necessary to suggest that one should never miss the opportunity to give encouragement. And remember there are high spots in all of our lives and most of them have come about through encouragement from someone else. I don't care how great, how famous or successful a man or woman may be, each hungers for applause. Foresters CMG applaud you all for your continued support with your teams.

Foresters ARE a club where SPORT FOR ALL is taken seriously, “winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is” and this is especially important when you consider this is the 1st Rule in FIFA’s code of conduct;

Play to Win

Winning is the object of playing any game. Never set out to lose. If you do not play to win, you are cheating your opponents, deceiving those who are watching, and also fooling yourself. Never give up against stronger opponents but never relent against weaker ones. It is an insult to any opponent to play at less than full strength. Play to win, until the final whistle.

Clearly our aim is to put forward a sustainable plan for this club to be not only available and reachable as a sport for all “community club” but also to balance that with a desire to attract the best players in a bid to provide a suitable platform for all abilities – streaming from the outset.

Someone once said “we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit” It should not, then, come as a big surprise to you all that as a club we strive for excellence in every aspect. If we don’t somehow achieve it, there is no disgrace in it, so long as we continue to aim for excellence we are always heading in the right direction.

Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it. I hope every player, coach and helper can adopt the right attitude on and off the pitch and through continued support and coaching we can be motivated enough that our abilities are better than our opponents.

I wish you all a successful and enjoyable season ahead and hope we continue the great successes of last season. As always if you want to discuss any matters with me or simply chat about football I can be reached on the numbers found on the “about us” page.
