Girls Team get off to a tense start
GIRLS UNDER 11s LEAGUE MATCH
At Bishop Bell School, Eastbourne
SATURDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER 2007
Tunbridge Wells Foresters 0 Eastbourne Borough 0
The new season kicked off with an absolutely classic game against our old rivals from last season, Eastbourne. Even with a couple of new ‘signings’ playing, Foresters were pinned back for the first 20 minutes of the game by a rampant Eastbourne team. Towards the end of the first half Eastbourne seemed to ease up on the pressure, probably because they had been running for a relentless 20 minutes! This is where Foresters had their best opportunity of the match with a quick break through the backline of Eastbourne, which was a rarity, a good shot which struck the bottom left hand post and bounced back to the goalkeeper.
After the well deserved break the game went from end to end, with Eastbourne having the better of the chances. Both teams defended as if their lives depended on it. The referee had to do little to stop the game and it flowed really well.
The last five minutes were a test of nerves as neither squad, by this time, deserved to lose and when the whistle finally came Foresters had secured a point and were probably the most relieved of the two teams.
Congratulations to both teams on what was my first ever ‘mini-soccer’ 0-0 draw – over 1 hour that is some defensive achievement at this level! My thanks to the team for their efforts and thanks to Eastbourne for making this such a memorable match.
Our best wishes to them for the rest of the season and we look forward to playing you in the Cup Final!!
