GIRLS UNDER 11s LEAGUE MATCH
At Bayham Playing Fields, Tunbridge Wells
SATURDAY 6th OCTOBER 2007
Tunbridge Wells Foresters 7 Jarvis Brook Girls 1
Our first home game of the new season, on our new pitch, started with a feast of goals for us, as Foresters quickly stamped their authority on there visitors Jarvis Brook. Just 4 minutes into the game and the first breakthrough came with a great goal from Harriet Montgomery.
With first match nerves seeming to be retreating, Gemma Rathmell made some brilliant runs down the right hand side, twisting and terrorising the away team. Then on 15 minutes came probably one of the best team goals I have ever seen at this level. A goal kick from Emma Salter, flicked on first time by Madalena Hernandez into the path of Gemma who took two touches out wide and crossed low onto the edge of the penalty box, Millie Everett hit the ball first time and sank it into the bottom left corner. It can only be described as pure class, professional and deadly!
With five minutes to go before halftime Foresters were looking comfortable, with Gemma adding a third, and celebrating her first goal for the club. After falling 3 behind, Jarvis Brook started playing some good, if somewhat aggressive, football which resulted in a super fast run through 2 of our defenders and an excellently taken goal.
The second half started off a lot tighter than the first, but with superb 2nd goals from Harriet & Millie the nerves were soon settled back down. If the second goal was the best team goal, then the 6th had to be probably the best individual goal I’ve seen at this level. A 20 yard free-kick hit hard, low and into the back of the Jarvis Brook net by Harriet Montgomery - untouchable! It was a fantastic way to get a hat-trick. Parfait as they say in France!
By this time Foresters looked very comfortable and Jarvis Brook, with all credit to them, continued to push and look for a break through, but as usual, our defence remained solid. A last minute error by the Jarvis Brook goalkeeper let Harriet in for her 4th goal and an undeniable ‘player of the match’ award.
Well done again to everyone – we keep getting faster, stronger and more determined. A fantastic team effort.
