Festive cheer for the girls!
GIRLS UNDER 11s LEAGUE MATCH
At Brooks Playing Fields, Burgess Hill
SATURDAY 15th DECEMBER 2007
Tunbridge Wells Foresters 6
Southdown AFC 0
“In the bleak mid-winter...” the weather was bleak but the football was warm and tantalising! From the very first minute, Southdown did not look like causing us any problems and although it took a bit of time coming, the first goal took any doubt of losing out of the equation.
With some brilliant passing moves, the girls looked unstoppable as shot after shot rained down on the Southdown goal. A brilliantly taking corner from Gemma found it’s way into the back of the net of a Southdown player which made their heads drop even more.
The second half was as comfortable (for the players not the spectators!) as the first and with 10 minutes to go the game was out of sight with a crushing 6 – 0 win which secured first place at the top of the league and a clearance from 2nd placed Hastings heading into the Christmas break.
What was also superb to see here at Southdown was the first clean sheet in 5 games, our only other clean sheet coming on the first day of the season against Eastbourne.
Well done to the girls, and a special congratulations to the player of the match, Emma Salter, who had a simply outstanding game.
Two weeks off now and then back into the fray again!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
