A steep learning curve for the new girls

GIRLS UNDER FRIENDLY MATCH
At Jarvis Brook

SATURDAY 9th FEBRUARY 2008

Tunbridge Wells Foresters 2
Jarvis Brook 4

Whilst the Under 12s team were taking apart Crowborough in their Quarter-Final Cup Match at Bayham, the ‘Under 10s’ travelled to Jarvis Brook to play in what was most of the players’ first competitive match, in a friendly against a very well organised and disciplined Jarvis Brook side.

The game started nervously with a few errors from both teams when Jarvis Brook broke away and scored a sneaky goal. Foresters’ heads did not go down and the girls immediately fought back with a fantastic edge of the box strike from Martha Reynolds making the scores level.

Just before the half-time whistle Jarvis Brook scored a quality second goal, breaking away down the left and lining up in the box to strike. 2-1 at half time and the girls were enjoying every minute.

The second half started just as edgily as the first, and we conceded 2 quick goals. Jarvis Brook were playing some very good football and seemed to be cruising to a win, when Chelsea-Leigh Rix scored a superb second goal and with time left it seemed like an unlikely comeback was on the cards.

With several chances and attacks Foresters were unable to break down the defence and the game ended with a deserved win 4-2 to Jarvis Brook.

The Tunbridge Wells Foresters girls played so well and I was proud of every individual’s performance. We never gave up and we played some really nice football at times. Well done to all the first-timers and to our strong, level-headed captain, Hannah Lautch.

The team was: Hannah Lautch, Maisie Thomas, Chelsea-Leigh Rix, Martha Reynolds, Sacha Dhabalia, Chloe Butler, Charlotte Smith, Jesse Wells, Jenny Carey, Gabrielle Ladd.

A fantastic start to what promises to be some fantastic footballing careers. 100% for effort and hopefully we will soon have a chance to avenge our defeat.

Well done girls.
