A winning start for the girls

Under 12 Girls Match Report

Saturday 20th September 2008

Tunbridge Wells Foresters 4 v Ringer Rovers 1

The under 12s girl's team kicked off the new season with an emphatic win over new league members, Ringer.

The pitch was in perfect condition which helped some brilliant passing movements from the girls early on. Right from the kick off they put Ringer's goal under pressure, and it took a mere 2 minutes for the defence to crack and let Gemma Rathmell in for her first goal of the season. This was a perfect start and the team went on from there, piling more and more shots down on the Ringer goal.

Five minutes before half-time and Emma Salter popped up in the penalty box to slot home the second, giving the girls a comfortable 2 - 0 lead at half time.

On then to the second half, where a strong start from Foresters led to our third goal, placed brilliantly by Hannah Lautch.  A momentary lapse of concentration let in Ringer to score a consolation goal halfway through the second half, but they had played well and deserved some return.

Phoebe d'albertanson finished off an excellent performance from the girls with a hard, low drive into the corner of the goal, and thus scoring her first competitive goal for the team.

Commiserations to Ringer who played well, and if it hadn't have been for their excellent goalkeeper, could have conceded many more goals.  We wish them all the very best for the coming season.

Well done to the girls, everyone played a key part in the win today.  Player of the match goes to Phoebe for her determination, and endless running with, and without the ball.

Our next match will be the beaten cup finalists from last season, Hastings Hawks, on Saturday 4th October, in Hastings.  This promises to be a tough encounter, but I'm confident we can come away from there with something.

Have a great week.
