Match report:  U11 Girls Cup Final - Thursday 7th May 2009

On a breezy cool evening the U11 Girls Cup final was played between Hastings Hawks and TW Foresters.  The match was played at Seddlescombe using the new changing rooms and facilites opened the previous week.

The match started at a hectic pace with several attacks at both ends of the pitch.  Hastings took an earlier lead with a corner kick deflected into the goal by the TW Foresters goalkeeper (Maddy Wood).  The lead was short lived with Gemma Rathwell scoring a quick hat trick.  Hastings fought back and earned a penalty when Holly handled a cross in the box.  Maddy Wood saved the penalty before Gemma Rathwell added another before the break.

At beginning of the second half Hastings renewed they attack of the foresters goal without succuss due to steely defending from Isabelle, Emma, Maddy and Alice. Hastings pushed players up the pitch leaving gaps at the back which were exploited by Gemma and Maddy to make it 6-1.  Fives minutes before the end, Hastings gained a consolation goal but Foresters were not troubled again.

Foresters had retained the cup with a hard fought 6-2 win.

Congratulations to all the girls involved in the match and in the previous rounds. A fantastic achievement for the squad and a great building block for next season.
