Mustangs fly high
Darwin FC 1 – 6 TWF Mustangs
A bright warm sunny morning greeted us for our first league match of the season. Away to Darwin FC, at Biggin Hill. The pitch was immaculate and we received a friendly reception from our opponents
The game was very even to begin with, Darwin applying plenty of attacking pressure. A superb lobbed goal from Jack seemed to calm our nerves and the Mustangs got much more of the game. Darwin were not to be underestimated and scored an equalizer to make it 1 – 1 at half time.
Coach changed things around during the interval and the Mustangs came out determined to win. We had plenty of good possession and attacking play. As the home side came forward, Mustangs caught them time and again on the break. The second half saw Jack complete a superb hat-trick, with excellent goals from Callum and Liam. Our final goal came direct from a corner and has been attributed to James.
At times we played well as a team but there is work we need to do around playing the final pass to open up the opposition. This will come with practice and more matches.
This was a wonderful start to the season – especially as this is a new squad playing their first league game.
Man of the Match went to Jack Beaney for his attacking flair and defensive tenacity – along with a debut hat-trick.
