Mustangs Win Local Derby   Tonbridge Angels “B” 0 – 3 TWF Mustangs

A fine October morning away to Tonbridge Angels. Mustangs were initially excited to be playing at the Longmead Stadium until they realized our pitch was on adjacent ground!

Still the pitch was in good condition and we received a warm welcome from our hosts.

With some enforced changes for Mustangs, with no Alfie, Joe or Jamie this match was an opportunity for a couple of squad players to stake their claim to a regular place.

Early nerves (well coach’s nerves) were quickly settled with a cracking goal from Liam after less than 2 minutes. Latching onto a cross from the right, he hit home with power and precision.

With powerful runs down the right from Ryan and Liam on the left, a second goal was bound to come. Callum duly obliged after 18 minutes.

The half ended with Mustangs 2 up – but our opponents were not finished with and pushed hard in the second period. Our stand in goalkeeper, James ran from his line to make a great clearance and handled the corners from the Angels well.

A third goal came complements of Callum mid way through the second half and we were on our way to a win and 2 more points.

After a few more minutes, coach changed things around to give Liam and Callum a much needed rest. We played a 3 – 3 formation to see how we would handle it and secure the game.

Coach learnt a lot from this game, with some key areas for us to work on going forward.

Well done to the whole squad. Today showed we have strength in depth and the ability to win against well organized opposition. Liam, Ryan, Callum and Jack were contenders for man of the match but coach decided all deserved something today!

Squad: James, Eddy, Willem, Liam, Jack, Ryan, Callum, William and Lee
