Foresters warm to a 3-0 win
Tandridge League Division B
Foresters 3 vs. Hamsay Rangers 0
A freezing cold Sunday on a partly frozen pitch met both teams. Foresters, without Liam, had a few players below par with the usual seasonal coughs and colds. A breezy Hawkenbury ensure the surface remained hard and the ball would undoubtedly be carried by the wind and bounce high due to the hard pitch. Foresters opted to play in to the wind in the first half. Foresters, as usual, were asleep for the first 5 to 10 minutes and failed to get a grip on the game. As time progressed they settled down and passed more but failed to capitalise in the final 3rd of the pitch. Great chances by Luke and Josh fell short from either a great save or the woodwork. Despite their efforts and possession Foresters failed to break the deadlock and the half ended 0-0
Second half was slightly better and with the wind behind Foresters, fortunes were favoured. Again Josh and Luke parried in midfield and good chances came their way but the failed to covert. The opener came from a peachy cross from Luke and the ball found Josh who managed a well taken volley tap in. Other chances fell to Josh who headed and volleyed high. The second goal came from Josh although it will be accredited to Luke. Luke picked the ball up outside the area and shimmied into the area and slotted the ball passed the keeper, However, just before the ball crossed the line for Luke’s goal, Josh put his toe to it! The third again came from Luke who continued to pursue the “lost cause” and managed to stick a boot to the ball that found the back of the Hamsay net.
Hamsay were a better side than we found them in October and they worked extremely hard to ensure most efforts were thwarted. The game ended 3-0. The result was good considering the poor conditions but Foresters must still learn that when the pitch is hard and the wind is high, the ball must stay on the ground and passing and movement should start from there. Too many times the ball was hoisted high and neither team were good enough to get the ball under control immediately. A much needed win!
