another great performance
Elite FC 0 – 8 Tunbridge Wells Foresters Mustangs
A bitterly cold day in Beckenham and sloping pitch greeted us for our match against Elite FC. Playing uphill in the first half Elite held us to just 2 goals, both coming from Alfie’s highly tuned left foot. Elite had few attacks but on those occasions when they broke through the midfield, Eddy, Joe and Willem were more than able to protect the goal. With Jacj in the centre of midfiled, breakthroughs were rare and our distribution was good.
At half time, Mustangs were confident that more goals would be scored and so it proved.
Coach adopted an adventurous 1 – 3 – 2 formation and the floodgates opened.
Alfie completed his hatrick, Callum scored a hatrick (although 1 with the help of a wicked deflection), Ryan on his return to the side netted and Elite helped us with an own goal. There were many other opportunities, with Liam firing over the bar after another of his mazy runs. Callum had shots blocked on the line and Alfie was very unfortunate to have a spectacular goal disallowed (direct from the corner he took) as the referee had not blown. Ryan was full of strength and running and was unlucky not to score more.
Mustangs again worked well as a team. There were times when our passing could have been a little snappier and there were occasions where we tried to walk the ball into the goal rather than trying a shot. Minor criticisms though, we were well in control and worthy winners.
8 wins in 8 league games, with only 3 goals conceded.
Squad: Jamie Threadgold, Capt. (GK), Willem Kliensmede (LB), Eddy Chambers (RB) , Alfie King (LM), Jack Beaney (CM), Liam Midmore, (RM), Callum Seal (ST), Joe Wickham (ST & RB), Ryan Khan (RM)
