Mustangs Win 3 Scored and None Conceded!
In view of the appalling weather earlier this week, Coach booked a mini 3G Astro Pitch at Mascalls School. A super surface but quite a narrow pitch, which did not suit our usual attacking wing play. Our visitors are a very tidy side who are mid table after 9 games.
The match started with both teams being quick to close down and tackle. Midfield was very congested but after 14 minutes, Mustangs broke the deadlock with a very well taken goal from Callum. 2 minutes later and Callum added a 2nd and Mustangs were in control. After sustained pressure, Jack added out 3rd on the stroke of half time.
At half time we discussed the need to stay focused – Oxted had shown enough in the first half to make Coach realize they were very capable and could get themselves back into the game.
The 2nd half was a very tight affair, with midfield remaining congested. To try and get more space, Mustangs played with 2 strikers, 3 midfield and 1 defender. Not a familiar formation and it left us too vulnerable on the break, with Oxted created several opportunities. That said, Mustangs had numerous chances to increase their lead, with Liam, Alfie, Ryan firing in some great shots. At one point James wriggled through but their keeper kept the ball out. Jamie made a great recovery to save the ball on the line and Joe again proved he can attack and defend in equal measure. William gave us some extra options, being abole to play in defense, midfield or attack.
3 – 0 is a very good result and keeps our momentum going. Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us and we can get our remaining fixtures played and keep our campaign on track.
