Tonbridge Angels 4 vs. Foresters 1
This much awaited semi final versus arch rivals Tonbridge was a great cup thriller – just not for Foresters. Angels league position belies their strengths and they were fired up, willing and ready for anything Foresters had.
In the first half Angels marked their intentions with far better movement, passing and desire to win the ball. Each and every ball was won far better by Angels than Foresters and it was not long before they broke through and scored. Despite a rallying cry Foresters failed to make any impact whatsoever and continued to allow Angels the space and time to play. Soon after a lose ball from a corner hit a Foresters arm and a penalty was awarded. Despite best efforts Angels scored and at 2-0 down Foresters heads dropped badly. Shortly before the half time whistle a third was added.
Second half was not much better from Foresters still allowing the Angels plenty of time and space. More passing did yield opportunities but Foresters failed to find their net. Another break saw Angels again extend their lead. 4 goals would be tough and although heads did not drop much more Foresters failed to really liven their game up. Late on a great ball found Luke, who volleyed the ball high, over the keeper and under the cross bar. No fluke from Luke, second week running he did this.
The entire team from Defenders to Attackers failed collectively. The Angels were good, but not that good, however Foresters were bad, not that bad, but bad enough to allow a good team in. It is a disappointment to have worked so hard to achieve a semi final slot only to throw it away on the day. Angels worked harder, played harder and deserved their win. Lets hope the players can learn from this and take it forward once more?
