a great win!

Foresters 3 vs. Whyteleafe 0

Once again I sit and ponder what actually makes a 10 year old tick! Last week we crashed out of the cup due to not being competitive enough. This week we again had a tough battle but came through victorious.

Whyteleafe are a tough team, well presented who play hard and work the ball well. That said Foresters were strong in defence, while riding their luck and managed to find chances.

The first half was another typical Foresters performance where we failed to make an impression with our pass and move features and resorted to the harder tasks of running them down and keeping their time on the ball to a minimum. Foresters pushed hard and got the ball into good positions but failed to make the final ball count. Whyteleafe defended very well indeed.  After about 15 minutes play Miller came on and resumed his role up front. After a few exchanges Miller “hassled” a Whyteleafe defender and managed to get the ball from him. From there he kept his cool and managed to slot the ball home for 1-0. Despite their attacking desires Whyteleafe were kept at bay with some superb goalkeeping from an “inform” Kieran. Shortly before the break Liam added to the tally to make it 2-0. That was how the half ended.

At the beginning of the second half Foresters sat back too much and despite some close efforts from Whyteleafe, and more great saves from Kieran, they failed to convert anything that could bring them into the game. Was this our turn for some luck? Soon enough Foresters re-grouped, worked hard and another opportunity fell to Miller who slotted home for 3-0. Although Whyteleafe continued to push the “rub of the green” was clearly with Foresters.

Another great win and perhaps the players can start to believe in themselves more?

Well played boys!
