Mustangs Stay 8 Points Clear at Top of South Central Division
TWFC Mustangs 4 – 0 Darwin
A warm bright Spring morning at Hawkenbury as the Mustangs played hosts to Darwin. Having beaten Darwin 1 – 6 in our previous encounter, hopes were for another convincing win. Although not such a big score line, Mustangs scored another 4 goals with none conceded.
From the opening whistle Darwin set out to defend and make Mustangs break them down. Early Mustangs attacks faltered among the many bodies Darwin threw into the defence. Our first goal came from Callum, slotting home after 10 minutes. 2 minutes later and Liam doubled out lead – would the floodgates open? No. Darwin continued to defend in depth and held on to half time without conceding further.
The second half got off to a flying start with Joe scoring in the first 2 minutes. Again Darwin held on but in the 23rd minute Ryan turned and hit hard and low for our 4th goal.
A convincing win but there is room for further improvement from the Mustangs. All too often we ran with the ball rather than play the killer pass. Also, in our efforts to score we sometimes lost our shape and players were bunching.
With 8 games to go Mustangs have an 8 point lead at the top of the table. However, we have some challenging matches ahead and this division title will not be decided until well into April.
