Mustangs won both legs of this double header to seal the South Central title. Played at Hawkenbury, the Mustangs played some of their best football of the season to overcome the Westerham Tigers.
Needing 3 points out of the 4 available to win the division, Mustangs dominated both games. Our midfield dominated possession, with strong running and fluid passing they created chance after chance. Our back line was as solid as ever limiting the Tigers to only a couple of half chances and Jamie was able to keep another clean sheet.
There was some great link up play from defence/midfield and attack in both games. In the first match, deadlock was broken after 8 mins when Jack fired home. The 2nd came from Liam on 10 mins with Alfie adding a 3rd a minute later. 3 – 0 at half time and 2 of the 3 points were almost in the bag. Westerham tightened things up in the 2nd half but Mustangs struck again after 5 mins courtesy of Callum. The 5th came on 10 mins with another goal from Liam. 5 – 0 was a great result and fired the team on for the 2nd game.
The next match was much like the 1st, with Mustangs running things from midfield. Our first goal came after a minute when Callum struck, 3 mins later and Liam scored again. The 3rd came on 9 mins with both Callum and Liam claiming the goal. Without action replay, coach decided the goal was Callums. 3 – 0 again at half time and the title was ours! Mustangs added a 4th goal on 14 minutes when Joe poked home the ball as it pinged around the box. We could have had many more in view of the chances we had. The players were disappointed when a strong penalty appeal was unheeded by the referee who decided that bringing Jack down in the area warranted a goal kick...
All in all, a tremendous day for the Mustangs and for Tunbridge Wells Foresters U10s. Our hopes and best wishes are now with the B Division side who can win their division next week!
