brings double delights!

Barnet Wood Colts 0 – 3 TWFC Mustangs   TWFC Mustangs 1 – 0 Barnet Wood Colts

A hot Spring day greeted Mustangs at Barnet Wood. The pitch did not match the beauty of the day being very tight, hard and uneven. Possibly the smallest pitch we have played on this season – certainly the worst.

With the division already won, today’s games were to pose a couple of challenges for Mustangs – were they still motivated and would a very decent Barnet Woods team inflict their first defeat on them?

Game 1

In the opening match, Mustangs had most of the possession and created many chances. Callum opened the scoring on 10 mins with a well placed effort. Our wing play was good – but all too frequently our players bunched with 2 and sometimes 3 players going for the ball. Disappointing in view of the work we have done in training and it helped to keep the score at only 1 nil at half time.

2nd half opened brightly with a well taken goal from Liam after 2 mins. Mustangs soaked up some pressure but were in control and Alfie made it 3 – 0 on 14 mins. Our play had improved but still there was too much crowing of the ball.

Game 2

After a ridiculously long break when the opposition coaches seemed to go off for lunch, the 2nd game kicked off. This time Barnet Wood seemed much more fired up and were looking dangerous. All played their part in defending our goal, with Willem and Eddy have very good games at the back. Deadlock was broken in Mustangs favour after 7 mins when Liam slotted home.

2nd half and Mustangs rediscovered their passing and moving, with midfielders Jack, Liam and Alfie combining well to set up good attacks. Barnet Wood did maintain pressure but created few clear cut chances. The score remained 1 – 0 to Mustangs at full time.

2 more wins, making it 20 out of 20 and 40 points on the board. Also, another clean sheet for Jamie!
