U12A Match Report 30th Sept 2007
30 Sep 2007
West Wickham Utd 2 Tunbridge Wells Foresters ‘A’ 4
Third time lucky! We recorded our first win of the season. Before the match we asked all the players to give an extra 10% and all 13 players responded with that extra effort that resulted in a positive performance throughout the match.
After only 6 minutes a fine run and cross on the right by Tom saw Jack fire us into the lead with a shot from inside the 6yd area. However all the good work was nearly undone 2 minutes later when the useful Wickham Number 7 rounded Jorge in goal and shot goal bound towards an empty net but to the amazement of most George Chambers appeared from nowhere and managed to divert the ball for a corner. The Foresters attack was creating plenty of chances and Jack had two more shots, one of which was well saved by the keepers legs. West Wickham then managed an equaliser with a scrambled goal with the final touch coming off a Foresters defender. Then Dan Cheek had a long range shot after 20 minutes that some in the crowd thought had gone in, but the ball actually narrowly missing the cross bar. A minute later we were back in front when from a fine through ball from Ed, Jack rounded the keeper and made no mistake to make it 2-1 to us. We could not hold the lead until half time as West Wickham pegged us back again with a well taken goal.
The second half playing slightly down the hill was a different story with Foresters taking the game to the home team with West Wickham reduced to playing a very physical match. This resulted in several free kicks being given to us and from one of these just outside the area Tom Beck curled the ball skilfully into the top corner to restore our lead to 3-2. Christian’s long shot efforts and Ed Stocker corners were troubling Wickham, and all of their attacks were by now being well managed by our defence including Calum who made an excellent debut on the right side of defence. Bud was then fouled inside the area to earn Foresters our second penalty of the season, which was calmly slotted away by Tom Beck. Jake narrowly failed to add the score from a corner and we created a couple more chances with the final score flattering the home side.
In summary all of the boys did as they were asked, and gave their all. We attacked the ball and were nearly always first to the ball. Thanks to all the supporters who attended, and to the ref who also put in a good performance
