Tandridge League Cup - Ifield Edwards 6 Foresters 2

Ifield Edwards 6 Foresters 2

Our latest journey in the Tandridge League saw us travel to West Sussex for a cup match against a team one league above us and winners of their last match 10-0.

The morning got off to bad start with there being nowhere to park outside the church and the journey being rather foggy. This results in 4 players arriving at the ground with just 10 minutes to kick off, as I got rather lost in the middle of Crawley!

We started the match brightly and created 3 or 4 half chances early on, however the first goal went to Ifield from a corner after we failed to clear our lines. Ifield then hit the bar and their 2 useful forwards were making it difficult for our back three of Calum, George and Shashi. Jordan then put us back in the game with a long range goal from all of 30 yds. The next goal was important but sadly went to Ifield when the Ifield forwards broke our offside trap. Ifield then added another when their speedy number 7 then nipped in front of Jorge to make it 3-1 at half time.

In the second half we improved and were looking stronger with the midfield 5 of Christian, Tom, Joe, Jake and Dan controlling the middle of the park. Joe had several shots which only just missed, and Jordan was also letting fly from distance. Bud had several nice touches to match his earlier header in the first half which only just failed to beat the keeper.

The Ifield attackers were keeping Jorge busy in goal and he was often coming out of his area to kick clear. Midway through though Ifield added the decisive fourth and then a few minutes later added the goal of the game which rather killed off any revival from Foresters. However even when they added their sixth, all the Foresters team kept there heads up and continued playing football and their hard efforts were rewarded with a second goal when from a fine cross from Tom Beck from which one of the Ifield defenders sent a bullet of a header past his own keeper. Finishing the stronger side, Harry and Bud created several more half chances and a great header from Bud only just missed the Ifield cross bar.

In summary the score line slightly flattered the home side, but they were useful up front and with a very strong defence.

Thanks as ever to all the supporters who travelled and to the ref who had an excellent game.

Julian
