Battling Foresters pegged back... but end up unbeaten in three!

Westerham 2 v Foresters ‘A’ 2   @ King George Playing Fields, Westerham (22nd October 2007)

With 3 players on holiday, Shashi sick and Harry playing for the Crowborough & District team, we made the short trip up the A21 to Westerham with a bare 11 players.

Due to the absentees, we were forced to make changes at the back with Jake playing at right back, and Luke at left back. Neither player let us down and both put in solid performances throughout the game.

Westerham had several tall defenders & midfielders who were winning most of the balls in the air in the early exchanges, and taking the game to us initially. However, we started to gain control and were creating several chances with a Jordan cross come shot narrowly missing. Tom Beck was causing problems for their left back with his pace and crossing skills. Foresters took the lead after a scramble from a corner in the 6 yard box with Jordan finally firing us in front. Foresters added a second with a bizarre own goal after more good work by Tom rolling the ball towards an empty net and the defender kicking his attempted clearance in the goal! Joe then created a good chance for Jack to go one on one with the keeper, who made a smart save. Westerham had several attempts on goal all of which were well dealt with excellently by Jorge in goal.

We held the lead to half time, and as both myself and Dave commented to ourselves that the next goal was going to be crucial. Sadly for us it went to Westerham with a well-taken goal, quickly followed by a second to equalise.Westerham were now full of confidence and launching numerous attacks on the Foresters goal, which kept George Chambers and Ryan busy. Ryan’s strength and pace at the back saved us on several occasions, and when the defence was breached Jorge make a number of good saves. Christian and Bud were battling hard in the middle and up front to keep the scores level and for 25 minutes of the second half we were up against it. However, in the final 5 minutes we came right back into the game and created two half chances, with Joe firing wide, and Jordan unable to get a short off when just inside the area.

The final whistle (after much played added time!) went with a draw probably being the right result as the game was very much a match of two half’s.

Thanks to all the players who kept battling throughout making it 4 points from their last 3 league matches, and to the supporters who travelled and also to Westerham for there hospitality throughout.
