TW Foresters ‘A’  4 v Old Cousldon Colts 1

Old Cousldon Colts 1 v TW Foresters ‘A’ 6

This was always going to be 2 very important matches to us and before the match started we emphasised the importance of 4 points.

We spoke about, passing, passion, pride, pressure, patience, and plenty of shots and the boys did not let us down in any department in both games.

The strong squad available allowed us to start with 4 subs with only Philip being absent this week.

Coulsdon created a half chance straight from the kick off and we took several minutes to settle. However we were in front when Mirkan went on one of his runs and calmly slotted home. This settled the whole team and we soon created numerous chances with Jack, Jordan, Tom, and Christian all firing in shots that tested the keeper or the woodwork. Following a good goal kick by Jorge the ball found its ways to Mirkan who added another goal to make it 2-0. The pressure was now relentless and we had several chances to increase the lead however Cousldon broke quickly and the ball was played into the penalty area and Jorge got there to late and fouled the striker for a penalty. The striker fired the ball home to give Cousldon an unlikely lifeline. 2-1 at half time did not reflect the game as one of the parents said it should have been 5-1.

Cousldon’s game was now raised and it needed good work by the defence of Shashi, Ryan, George and Calum to keep Cousldon out. Calum in particular also looking lively when pushing forward and with his crosses which caused problems for the visitors defence. We were able to bring on all 4 subs of Joe, Dan, Ed and Luke and all were to play a major and important part in the match.

The game was now finely balanced in terms of the score and Cousldon were showing determination without creating to many clear-cut chances. Foresters then got the third goal we deserved when the keeper brought down Mirkan - Tom Beck slotted in the penalty.

Foresters then added a fourth with Ed scoring a fine long-range goal from outside the area. However Coulsdon kept coming and only a fine goal line clearance from Luke prevented Coulsdon getting a second.

Into the second match and we made several changes and as one of the boys commented had a strong subs bench with now Joe, Jordan, Tom and George Chambers sitting out the start of the match.

The second match was to follow a similar pattern to the first with Foresters dominating and creating numerous chances. Mirkan’s trusty left foot put us into an early lead, however as in the first game Coulsdon were to claim an unlikely equaliser. Three players failed to call a name for the ball and a clever chip over the keeper made the score 1-1.The visitors then had one of their useful 5 minute spells and one was left wondering if the good work would be undone. However Jake responded quickly firing a shot in the top corner. This settled us again and Jack scored a fine goal latching onto Shashi’s through ball & beating the defenders for pace calmly slotted home. Half time came and with several changes including the introduction of Joe at right wing back whose passing and movement troubled the defenders. The fourth goal came following good passing football between Joe, Christian and Dan with Jordan smashing in the fourth.

Mirkan then set off on another of his mazy runs beating defenders and firing in a shot that the keeper did well to save, however he was on hand to turn in the rebound for goal number five.

Calum marked off a fine performance in both games when he bundled in goal six from close range.

In summary the boys have showed constant improvement in the last few matches and are getting the results that there efforts deserve

Thank you to Jack the ref, who had two good games, and all the supporters. Also thank to Coulsdon Colts who never gave up and made a match of both games.

Next week we entertain league leaders Westerham and look forward to what should be an excellent game.

Julian
