A winning start for U14’S
22 Sep 2008
Great start at Bayham
Foresters U14's 4 Oxted Rockets 1
Laurie 3, Smith 1
Foresters U14 won their first game of the season at Bayham Sports Ground. Foresters began their first year of sponsorship from Caffyns by raising £5.00 for Child line. Foresters are asking every team they play to donate £1 per goal for each goal Foresters score while Foresters will donate £1.00 for each goal they concede.
The game started well for Foresters who played open quick football lots of passing and the ball stayed on the floor most of the time, however Oxted opened the scoring when one of their players swivelled in the penalty area and hit a low skidding right foot shoot just beyond Elliot the Foresters keeper.
Foresters lifted their game even more and equalised before half time with a goal from Joe.
In the second half Joe added a second then Alex chipped in with the third. With about 5 minutes to go Joe came back onto the pitch to complete his hatrick with an easy tap in after some great work on the right wing by Jack.
Foresters were in control of the game for long periods, they looked very fit after a lot of hard work in pre season and towards the end of the game the fitness began to show more and more. This was the first time the boys had played 40 minutes each way. The coaches adopted a policy of regularly swapping boys in the second half and all the boys made strong contributions to the overall success. The back four though not under a great deal of pressure were fantastic; Ashley, Matt George and Archie were all strong in the tackle and well organised. Jordan fitted in well when he game on. It was great to see the boys playing it our from the back rather than aimlessly clearing the ball.
