Smith hits two as reds win in extra time…..
Foresters 2 ( Smith 2, 1 Pen) vs. Ex Blues 1
In snowy and windy conditions both sides played a hard fought but good natured game of football. It was our first outing on the new ‘3G’ surface at Paddock Wood, an excellent surface and a new experience for the boys. With three boys unavailable we could only take 12 to the game. It was a day for substitutes with tiring conditions and extra time but the 12 who played were outstanding.
Foresters went with a new 4/3/3 formation with Joe and Jack both playing as out and out wingers, both ran their socks off and our pace was frightening at times. Alex put us in front with a penalty just before half time and we looked like it was going well. However Ex-Blues came out like trains in the second half hitting the bar, Toby made a couple of great saves and we also cleared off the line. Mid way through the second half Ex-Blues got their deserved equalizer and we sat through a nail biting last 15 minutes as Foresters defended well.
Extra time was dominated by Foresters with Jack and Joe attacking down the flanks wave after wave of attacks was thwarted by an excellent keeper. The winner came just as we were thinking about who would take the penalties in the shoot out. An over hit pass from centre midfield went through to the ExBlues keeper. Alex chased the lost cause and the keeper’s clearance cannoned off Alex’s chest, leaving Alex on his own on the 6 yard line with the ball at his feet, he didn’t miss.
