Foresters u14 once again confound all logic by being both woeful and brilliant, however this time it was on the same day! Following Foresters U14 this season has been like following the Hammers, you just don’t know what will happen next.
Coming off a run of 4 defeats, last week we won both legs of our double header against 3rd place Purley, coaches and parents thought the tide had turned again and We were once again on the up.
We turned up against top side Palace Guard full of confidence, up for the fight and determined to win........then we kicked off. Palace Guard brushed us aside with ease and won the first leg 4- 0 also hitting the post twice.
So the anticipation turned to trepidation as we prepared for the second match. Never easy to win a second game in a double header after being soundly beaten in the first match. We made a couple of changes at the back, and began to compete against a team who were probably several kilos heavier per man and at least 6 inches taller per man. We made some tackles, made some passes and began to believe, confidence began to flow. We arrived at half-time 0-0 unlucky not to be in front.
George Harbour came back on and within minutes made a fabulous through pass for Alex to score one on one against the keeper. After that it was backs against the wall. Palace Guard came at us however their team lost composure and although they kept attacking it was uncontrolled and they did not threaten our goal. The Foresters defence looked strong and began to pass the ball out creating the opportunities for more goals. A goal mouth scramble in the last minute saw Toby kick off the line and the final whistle shortly after was well received.
It’s a shame that the much publicised ‘Respect Campaign’ on the Palace Guard website does not run to dogs! The low point of the game being the coach chasing and screaming at a poor animal who had wondered onto the pitch, our players thought it was hilarious, I am not so sure, and found it rather sadly symptomatic of the way some adults approach kids football
