End of Season review

End of Season Review

Well here goes, we started with a trophy at the Valley Valliant’s 9 ‘a ‘side tournament and things were looking good we were full of hope for the season ahead. However with out wishing to sound like a premiership manager it was a season plagued with injuries. Connor R broke his ankle in the first friendly of the year. Then midway through the season as the cup run was hitting its dizzy heights and promotion was a real possibility we lost Archie with a broken collar bone, Alex with a torn hamstring that seamed to take an age to repair and Conor J was reduced to walking pace for several weeks with back and knee problems.

We had a season full of ups and downs, with no two performances the same. It seamed to be a win followed by a loss all season. We were in front in many games but could not close matches out. We had a good cup run loosing in the quarter finals 3-2 after being 2-0 ahead

Our biggest improvement on last year was in the goals conceded column, last year we conceded 59 goals in 18 games, this year only 40 goals in 20 games. Only the league champions conceded fewer.

We have always been a technically good side, but for me this has been a year of change when for the first time I have really noticed it is not enough to be technically good, we must compete in the tackle and be physically and mentally tough. Next year

We get closer again to men’s football. Before our last game of the season I had more than a little trepidation about our ability to cope with stronger bigger teams, but on Sunday we beat a strong physical team and a lot of things we had talked about happened in the game. Midfielders made headers, the ball didn’t bounce in the centre, and we made shoulder-charges and tackles.

I think the boys enjoyed their football and apart from the odd game where we let ourselves down a bit, they all gave their very best and all the players contributed through out the season. There were several highlights, but for me our best performance was the 4-1 win against Oxted in the first game of the season, a day when everything went right O n that day we played like Brazil!

In the end third in the league was what we deserved.

Thanks for a great season boys, well done.
