Rangers United (RU) travelled to Hailsham this afternoon, some 25 miles away. A beautiful day to play football with sunshine, a slight chill in the air, but excellent conditions, Hailsham having the benefit of a 3G pitch.
RU started as they meant to go along with immediate pressing, with a desire to win the ball back. The team have learnt the lesson of being on the front foot from minute one. In the past the team has suffered from slow starts, and then playing catch-up against oppositions.
RU scored in the third minute with a neatly taken goal from corner, with our main striker taking advantage of no marking. A second goal swiftly followed in the fifth minute, again from aggressive pressing. RU continued to dominate the first quarter of the game. Hailsham's goalkeeper was outstanding, making multiple saves. In the 20th RU slotted a third in from close range.
Hailsham had been enterprising in that period and showed that they deserved respect. On 21 minutes Hailsham overloaded on the left hand side, and their striker found room to have a speculative shot that beats the RU all ends up. 1-3 RU scored a 4th in 30th minute to keep the margin to three.
Half time. 1-4
The second half followed a similar trend of the first half with RU threatening. However, Halisham pushed forward sensing complacency and were rewarded with an another goal to reduce the deficit further. Certainly from there the game opened up as the opposition sensed an opportunity to get back in the game.
RU withheld Hailsham for a good 15 minutes of pressure, but a very well taken goal by one of the substitutes, hitting the ball first time at the edge of area, caught the goalkeeper off guard. 2-5
Two further goals, in the 72 and 76 minutes crowned a very good outing. Respect to the Hailsham who played with commitment, respect and endeavour. ]
That's five games in a row undefeated. Next week a return game vs Langton Green, one of our arch local rivals.
End.
