The hard work and training paid off, newly formed Foresters ladies stepped out and performed confidently putting 6 past a battling Sevenoaks Town Ladies team.
Foresters started the much stronger side having most of the possession, keeping hold of the ball in the oppositions half, working it in and out of the 18 yard box. It didn’t take too long before Foresters broke the deadlock and a break came when Mackley weaved her way through the defence putting the ball comfortably in the back of the net. Sevenoaks had some strong players and kept Foresters on their toes, making regular subs and keeping fresh legs.
Foresters stayed composed and it was not long before they found themselves 2 up with a confident finish from Mackley. Against the run of play Sevenoaks was through on goal but fortunately, the shot was sent way wide. Foresters got back on the attack as Wignall worked her way into the box and sent the ball flying past the keeper into the top corner to make it 3-0.
Just before the close of the half a penalty was awarded and Janes stepped up to the mark after a little encouragement but unfortunately, it was saved by the keeper. Luckily Mackley didn’t have to wait too long for her hat-trick and with a quick turn of pace she put another one past the Sevenoaks keeper to put Foresters 4-0 up at half time.
With some small changes and a new keeper Foresters stepped out for the second half. A more evenly matched half with Sevenoaks making some changes to their positioning, before having to make a change of keeper due to injury. This made a big difference for Sevenoaks, countless saves kept Foresters at bay. It wasn’t until Coombes was unmarked on the edge of the box that the next chance came, a low shot snuck underneath the keeper to make it 5-0. Foresters weren’t finished here, with relentless shots at goal and opportunities missed the final goal was snuck in by Walker after a perfect cross to her feet from prolific Janes.
A promising first performance showing vast improvement. We want to thank Sevenoaks for hosting us and wish them luck in their pre-season games as well as next season.
