Peter Cox, founder of TW Foresters FC in 1982 was well known in the community after devoting decades of his life to running junior football Clubs in the area.
During the 1970s he managed youth sides of Hawkenbury FC as a vehicle for his sons and other local boys in the area to play football.
In 1982 he decided to form his own Club, the name Foresters was associated to where he lived - Forest Road, as suggested by his Wife Theresa..
The Club colours in the 80’s were Green and the Club badge was originally the Nottingham Forest badge which was stitched on every shirt as shown in these pictures.
There was no sponsorship, coaching staff or committees in those early Years, the Club was self run and funded by Peter, this was no mean feat, especially running two Teams.
The Foresters Team’s back then played in the Tunbridge Wells & District Minor League on Saturdays and the Crowborough & District League on Sundays.
During the early 90’s the Club started to expand, his son Wayne, who played in the first ever Foresters Team also started managing and designed the Club’s first emblem which displayed the Foresters Axes.
Peter won the Club’s first ever "treble" of the league title and both cups – a feat that spurred then Arsenal manager George Graham to write to congratulate him.
It was around this time when the Club colours predominantly changed to Red as the picture below shows.
Peter provided the foundation for this great Club and it’s with great honour that we have an opportunity to recognise this with creation of the newly named Peter Cox Memorial Trophy, which will be awarded to the Foresters team that have shown true spirit & effort over the season.
