Everyone at Tunbridge Wells Foresters FC is saddened to learn of the sudden passing of former youth coach, Richard Powell.

Richard Powell, who died suddenly but peacefully on Saturday 27 November following a stroke two days earlier, will be fondly remembered as a cheerful, meticulous, conscientious, and humorous man who happily gave many hours to coaching Foresters footballers from the age of 5. His carefully planned coaching sessions of a weekend or latterly on a weekday evening were always designed to keep the players interested while subtly teaching them new skills. Mostly though the sessions were fun and created a camaraderie and team spirit which will hopefully be remembered all their lives.
He was a loving father to Ben, who turned into an equally cheerful, meticulous, fearless and reliable goalkeeper and to Catrin, who to his great pride and joy is now a Doctor. And he was a devoted and loving husband to Paula.
He was a great, fun, kind, and loyal friend to so many.
His passing has clearly left a massive gap in the lives of many, many people.
He was 63 and continued to enjoy his sports including football, golf, cricket and of course his cherished Crystal Palace until his sudden passing. As one of his friends said so aptly: “Life is so fragile. One day everything is ok… the next….”
Funeral arrangements which will likely include a small family service and a larger memorial event at a later date are still being finalized.
